Information We Collect

ClipContext collects only the minimum information necessary to provide its functionality. The following types of data are collected.

How We Use Information

Collected information is used solely for the following purposes.

• Providing clip saving, display, and search functionality
• Providing cross-tab search and text highlight functionality
• Storing user preferences (encryption, retention period, sync settings)
• Managing older clips through the automatic deletion feature
• Protecting stored data via encryption

Collected information is never used for any other purpose. There is no use for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes.

Data Storage and Sync

Where ClipContext stores data depends on user settings.

Chrome Sync Storage (Default)

By default, clip data is stored in chrome.storage.sync. This data is automatically synchronized across Chrome browsers signed in to the same Google account. Handling of synced data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Local Storage (Privacy Mode)

If local storage is enabled in settings, clip data is stored in chrome.storage.local and will not sync with your Google account. Data is retained only on your device.

Encryption and Security

ClipContext offers an optional encryption feature to protect clip data.

Encryption Specifications

• Algorithm: AES-GCM (256-bit key length)
• Key derivation: PBKDF2 (SHA-256, 100,000 iterations)
• Encryption is performed entirely within the browser; passwords are never transmitted externally
• Encryption passwords are stored in local storage and are never stored in sync storage

Third-Party Disclosure

ClipContext does not sell, provide, or share users' clip data with any third parties.

Exceptions apply only in the following cases.

• Legal obligation: When required by court order or applicable law
• User consent: When the user has given explicit consent

When using Chrome Sync Storage, data passes through Google's infrastructure. Google's Privacy Policy applies to that portion. ClipContext does not access or view that data.

Data Retention and Deletion

Automatic Deletion

Users can set an automatic deletion period in the settings screen.

• 7 days: Clips older than 7 days are automatically deleted
• 30 days: Clips older than 30 days are automatically deleted (default)
• Never: No automatic deletion is performed

Manual Deletion

Users can delete individual clips or clear all clips at any time. Deleted data cannot be recovered.

Uninstalling the Extension

Uninstalling ClipContext will delete locally stored data. Data in Chrome Sync Storage may remain in your Google account. To fully remove it, use the "Clear All Clips" button in the popup before uninstalling.

Your Rights

ClipContext users have the following rights.

• Right of access: Saved clip data can be viewed at any time in the popup screen
• Right to deletion: Individual or all clips can be deleted at any time
• Portability: Clips can be copied in full format and saved anywhere
• Right to change settings: Encryption, storage location, and retention period can be changed at any time

Children's Privacy

ClipContext is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13, and if such data is collected, it will be promptly deleted. If you become aware that a child under 13 is using ClipContext, please contact us at the address below.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as necessary. In the event of significant changes, we will notify users through the extension's update notes or the Chrome Web Store description page.

Continued use of ClipContext after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We recommend checking this page periodically.
